From Hindon river settlements to an industrial NCR district

Ghaziabad has archaeological memory at Kesari mound near the Hindon, ancient references around Kot, Loni and Dasna, 1857 battle history on the Hindon, and a modern identity as an industrial, metro, RRTS and airport-linked NCR district.

Ancient period

Kesari mound and Hindon river settlement

Excavation at Kesari mound near the Hindon River indicates early settlement memory around 2500 BCE, giving Ghaziabad an archaeological layer beyond its modern industrial identity.

Ancient and early medieval

Kot, Loni and Dasna traditions

The district history connects Kot village with Samudragupta memory, Loni with fort traditions and Dasna with an old Rajput settlement, fort remains and Devi worship.

Sultanate and Mughal period

Loni fort, Timur memory and royal routes

The Loni area appears in Sultanate and Mughal period memory, including old fort references, Nasiruddin Mahmud traditions and later Mughal hunting and travel routes.

1857

Battle on the Hindon and local sacrifice

The Hindon River area was an important 1857 theatre. The district history records battles with British forces on 30 and 31 May 1857 and remembers local fighters and martyrs.

1976 to present

District formation and NCR growth

Ghaziabad became a separate district on 14 November 1976 after being a tehsil of Meerut. Today it is an NCR industrial city with metro, RRTS, Hindon airport, expressways and dense urban markets.

A LITTLE PLANNING GOES A LONG WAY

Before you set off.

October to March is most comfortable. Visit City Forest and parks early morning or evening, and avoid open heritage walks during peak summer afternoons.

November to February · 7-23 C

Winter

Best for Dudheshwar Nath, City Forest, Swarna Jayanti Park, Modinagar, Loni and Dasna heritage walks.

March to June · 29-44 C

Summer

Plan temples and parks early morning or evening. Keep malls, cafes and short transit-based visits for hot afternoons.

July to September · 25-34 C

Monsoon

City Forest and parks look greener, but check waterlogging and traffic around Hindon, low-lying roads and market areas.
